Named after the Volkspark Friedrichshain, the park beside the street.
The park was laid out from 1846 as Berlin’s first municipal park. The city council had decided in 1840, on the anniversary of Friedrich II’s accession, to create a park (‘Hain’ = grove) for the crowded east of the city. The street, first a set of numbered planned roads, was named after the park in 1880.
