Named after Christoph Wilhelm Hufeland (1762–1836), physician.
Hufeland was a royal physician and the first dean of the medical faculty of the new Berlin university, where he taught from 1810. His saying ‘Prevention is better than cure’ became a motto of preventive medicine. The street was named in 1904; its pavements are wider than in the streets around it and lined with lime trees.
