Friedrichsfelde

Named after Friedrichsfelde, a village renamed in 1699 after Elector Friedrich III.

Low German settlers founded the village around 1230 as Rosenfelde. In 1699 it was renamed Friedrichsfelde after the Elector Friedrich III, who became King Friedrich I in 1701. After the Tierpark (zoo) opened in the park of Schloss Friedrichsfelde in 1955, the station got the addition ‘Tierpark’ in 1958; it was dropped in 1970, while the line was being extended to a new station of that name.
