Fröbelstraße

Prenzlauer Berg

Named after Fröbelstraße, which honours Friedrich Fröbel, founder of the kindergarten.

Friedrich Fröbel (1782–1852) was an educator; on 28 June 1840 he founded the ‘Allgemeiner deutscher Kindergarten’ in Blankenburg. The street bore his name from 1891, but in 1937 it was renamed Nordmarkstraße after a historical region between the Elbe and the Oder. In the 1980s it became Fröbelstraße again.
