Named after Prenzlauer Allee, the old road to Prenzlau in the Uckermark.
The road was used early on as a long-distance trade route to Prenzlau. Until about 1824 it was called Heinersdorfer Weg, after the first village outside Berlin; it then became the Prenzlauer Chaussee and from 1878 an Allee (avenue). Prenzlau's name is of Slavic origin and means ‘settlement of a man named Premyslaw’.
