Named after Meerane, a town in Saxony.
Meerane lies about 15 kilometres north of Zwickau, near the border with Thuringia, and developed a strong textile industry in the 19th century. The town probably first appears in a chronicle of 1174 as ‘Mer’. The street, named in 1997, serves a business park between Rhinstraße and Allee der Kosmonauten.
