Named after Osdorfer Straße, the road towards the vanished village of Osdorf.
Osdorf – ‘the village in the east’ – was founded in the 13th century and first recorded in 1369 as ‘Ostdorp’. Lying close to the border between the GDR and West Berlin, the village was demolished in 1968 for border security, and its roughly 150 inhabitants were resettled. The station opened only in 1998 and is one of Berlin’s youngest S-Bahn stations.
