Named after Samariterstraße, which takes its name from the Samariterkirche (Samaritan Church).
The church was built from 1892 to 1894 to designs by Gotthilf Ludwig Möckel; it is one of about 70 churches built by the Evangelischer Kirchenbauverein, an initiative of Emperor Wilhelm II. In 1895 the new street was named after it. The station opened in 1930; as the last station of the U5 still almost in its original state, it is a listed monument.
