Springpfuhl

Marzahn

Named after the Springpfuhl, a pond about 200 metres away.

A ‘Pfuhl’ is a small, often marshy pond. The Springpfuhl lies in a kettle hole left at the end of the last ice age, 13,000 to 14,000 years ago, beside today’s Helene-Weigel-Platz. Between 1976 and 1979, as the new Marzahn housing estate went up, a park was laid out around it and the pond became a rainwater basin. The station opened in 1976.
