Named after Wolfgang Straßmann, physician and Berlin politician.
Wolfgang Straßmann (1821–1885), a Jewish doctor and left-liberal social reformer, chaired Berlin’s city council from 1877 to 1885 and, with Rudolf Virchow, pushed for the sewage farms. The street was named after him in 1897. In 1938 the Nazi-era city government renamed it Ermelerstraße out of antisemitism; the old name returned in 1947.
