Named after the Rudolf-Virchow-Krankenhaus, today the Charité’s Campus Virchow-Klinikum.
Rudolf Virchow (1821–1902) was a world-famous pathologist and a liberal politician. On his 80th birthday in 1901 the city council decided to name its new hospital after him; Kaiser Wilhelm II opened it in 1906. It became a university hospital in 1987 and part of the Charité in 1995.
