Named after Wilhelmsruh, a villa colony whose name is a small mystery.
In 1892 Hermann Günther asked permission to name his colony Wilhelmsruh (‘Wilhelm's rest’). Why is unclear: Kaiser Wilhelm I is said to have liked riding here; a Wilhelm Burde supposedly came here for peace and quiet; or the name honoured Wilhelm Grande, who ran a restaurant by the lake. The station took the name on 3 October 1937. After the Wall was built, the locality lay out of reach in the East.
