Named after Zepernick, a village whose Slavic name means roughly ‘dense scrub’.
Zepernick, now part of the municipality of Panketal, was first recorded in 1289 as Cepernik, which in Slavic means roughly ‘dense scrub’. In 1375 the Landbuch of Emperor Charles IV listed it with 52 Hufen of land, about 758 hectares. The Prussian state railways opened the first stop in Zepernick on 1 September 1881.
