'Amersham' means the village of a man called Ealhmund.
Its second part is Old English hām, a village or dwelling. In Anglo-Saxon times the name was recorded as Agmodesham, in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Elmodesham, and in 1460 as Agmondysham and Amytysham. From 1922 to 1937 the station was called Amersham & Chesham Bois.
