Named after Ealing Common, an open space of about 47 acres in Ealing.
It is common land under the Metropolitan Commons Act of 1866. 'Ealing' comes from the Gillingas, a Saxon tribe named in a charter of around 700, who took their name from a chief called Gilla. From 1886 to 1910 the station was called Ealing Common and West Acton.
