'Ealing' comes from the Gillingas, the people of a Saxon chief called Gilla.
The tribe is mentioned in a charter of Æthelred of Mercia around 700; the name later appears as Yllinges around 1170 and as Elyng in 1553. The 'Broadway' was, and is, simply the main road through the town. The station opened in 1838 as plain Ealing, then the only station in the area, and was renamed Ealing Broadway in 1875.
