'Edmonton' means the farmstead or estate of a man called Ēadhelm.
It is in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Adelmetone. Edmonton Green, where Church Street, Hertford Road and Fore Street meet, was the focal point of Lower Edmonton; houses ringed it by the 18th century. The station opened in 1872 as Edmonton (High Level), was later Lower Edmonton, and took the name Edmonton Green in 1992.
