'Enfield' most likely means the open land belonging to a man called Ēana.
It comes from Old English Ēanafeld or similar, and the Domesday Book of 1086 spells it Enfelde. In 1303 a charter of Edward I allowed a weekly market, and the village green became a marketplace, making Enfield, also known today as Enfield Town, a market town. The station opened in 1849 as plain Enfield and became Enfield Town in 1886.
