Tottenham Court Road

Camden

Named after the road to the manor of Tottenham Court, not Tottenham.

The manor was recorded as Þottanheale around AD 1000 and as Totehele in the Domesday Book of 1086; like Tottenham, it was named after a landholder called something like Tota. Leased to Queen Elizabeth I, it came to be called Tottenham Court. The Northern line station opened in 1907 as Oxford Street, taking the present name in 1908.
