Wood Lane

Hammersmith and Fulham

Named after Wood Lane, called Turvens Lane until about 1830.

In the 1780s it was known as Turvens Lane, after Turvens House, a little north of Shepherd's Bush Green; the new name came from some nearby woods. The Metropolitan Railway opened a Wood Lane station in 1908 for the Franco-British Exhibition; renamed twice, it closed in 1959. In 2006 Transport for London revived the name for the new station.
