Named after the Belgian town of Bastogne.
Bastogne lies in Belgium's province of Luxembourg, and its history is tied to Luxembourg's: Henry VII, Count of Luxembourg, minted coins there, and in 1332 his son John the Blind granted it a charter and town walls. In December 1944, during the Battle of the Bulge, American troops were encircled in the town. Patton's Third Army broke the siege on 26 December.
