Henri Dunant (1828–1910), co-founder of the Red Cross.
In 1859 the Swiss businessman saw the wounded left without care after the battle of Solferino and organised local people to help them. His book 'A Memory of Solferino' led in 1863 to the committee that became the International Committee of the Red Cross. Ruined in 1867 and long forgotten, he shared the first Nobel Peace Prize in 1901.
