Named after Ostend, the Belgian port.
Ostend is a city in West Flanders, the largest on the Belgian coast. It began as a small village on the east end – 'oost-einde' – of an island. In 1846 the first ferry sailed from Ostend to Dover, making it a transit harbour to England.
