Named after the Centre hospitalier de Luxembourg (CHL), the city's public hospital.
The CHL was created by a law of 10 December 1975 and opened in 1976, bringing together the newly built Hôpital municipal, the Grand Duchess Charlotte maternity hospital and a children's clinic. All three are still on its Belair site, now called CHL Centre, CHL Maternité and CHL KannerKlinik; CHL Eich joined later.
