'Kuelebierg' means the coal hill.
'Kuel' is coal or charcoal, 'Bierg' a hill; in German the place is Kohlenberg. The name dates back to the Napoleonic era, when Cessange's forest was cleared to make charcoal. At the top, about 310 metres above sea level, stands a water tower built in the early 1930s to designs by city architect Nicolas Petit, to supply Gasperich.
