Named after Saint Cunigunde, an empress from Luxembourg.
A daughter of Count Siegfried I of Luxembourg, she married Henry II and became empress when he was crowned emperor in Rome in 1014. After his death she lived as a nun at Kaufungen, and she was declared a saint in 1200. Clausen's church, built in 1865 when Clausen became a parish of its own, is dedicated to her and stands on the Place Sainte-Cunégonde.
