Named after Vauban, Louis XIV's fortress engineer.
The stop is on the rue Vauban, named after the French general Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban. In 1684 he led Louis XIV's siege of Luxembourg, and the king approved his plans to rebuild the fortress that same year. Vauban saw the barely fortified Pfaffenthal as a weak point and in 1685 closed off the valley with a wall. Its two massive towers are known as the Vauban towers.
