François Hogenberg

Gasperich

Frans Hogenberg (1535–1590), engraver.

Born in Mechelen, he was banned from Antwerp in 1568 as a Protestant and later settled in Cologne. With Georg Braun he published the great book of city views 'Civitates Orbis Terrarum' from 1572, engraving most of its plans. Its third volume includes an early bird's-eye plan of Luxembourg, first published in 1581. A street in Gasperich is named after him.
