Named after the Place de Nancy, which honours the French city of Nancy.
Nancy, today prefecture of Meurthe-et-Moselle, was once capital of the Duchy of Lorraine. One link with Luxembourg: Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy and of Luxembourg, was killed besieging Nancy in 1477 and was first buried there.
