Huesegrënnchen

Neudorf

‘Huesegrënnchen’ is the hare valley where the name Neudorf began.

‘Hues’ is Luxembourgish for hare. The name dates from the game park of Peter Ernst von Mansfeld, governor of Luxembourg, who died in 1604. In 1794 houses by the fortress walls were pulled down, and the people who lost them were given new homes in the Huesegrënnchen. This new part was called ‘Nei(t)dierfchen’, a name later used for the whole of Neudorf.
