Named after John F. Kennedy (1917–1963), 35th president of the United States.
Kennedy, a Democrat from Massachusetts, was the youngest elected president, at 43, and the first Roman Catholic one. He served from 1961 until his assassination in Dallas on 22 November 1963. Luxembourg City also honours him: Avenue John F. Kennedy is the main road through Kirchberg.
