Barblé

Strassen

Named after the Barblé family of engineers.

In 1882 the railway engineer Jean-Nicolas-Ernest Barblé bought a house in Strassen. Around 1900 his son built metalworking shops beside it, employing up to 80 workers. Grandson Paul Barblé (1900–1979), mayor from 1946 to 1963, was an industrialist whose works include the Dudelange TV mast. The family sold the site to the commune in 1979; the Centre culturel Paul Barblé opened there in 2000.
