111 St (7)

Corona, Queens

Named after 111th Street, where it crosses Roosevelt Avenue.

The station opened in 1925 as the end of a shuttle from Alburtis Avenue, today’s 103rd Street–Corona Plaza. Its street number comes from the borough-wide numbering plan that the Queens Topographical Bureau was only beginning in 1917 and did not complete until the late 1920s. Wikipedia says Roosevelt Avenue honours Theodore and Franklin D. Roosevelt; writer Kevin Walsh names only Theodore.
