Named after 15th Street and Prospect Park, first planned as ‘Mount Prospect Park’.
In 1860 commissioners proposed a park centred on Mount Prospect, or Prospect Hill, one of the tallest hills in Brooklyn; Egbert Viele drew plans for ‘Mount Prospect Park’, as the space was initially called. The park as built was laid out by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux and opened in 1867, and Vaux’s revised plan left out Prospect Hill itself.
