Named after West 238th Street, in the Bronx neighbourhood of Kingsbridge.
Kingsbridge recalls the King’s Bridge, built in 1693, which carried the Boston Post Road over Spuyten Duyvil Creek. Until the later 19th century the area belonged to the Town of Yonkers; the parts now in New York City broke away as the Town of Kingsbridge, annexed by the city in 1874. Part of it became Riverdale, the rest today’s Kingsbridge.
