Named after 25th Street, home to Green-Wood Cemetery’s main gate.
25th Street runs from a dead end at Third Avenue to Fifth Avenue. There, near the northwestern corner of Green-Wood Cemetery, stands its main entrance: a double-arched Gothic Revival gate designed by Richard Upjohn and built in 1861–1863, now a city landmark. The cemetery itself was founded in 1838 as a rural cemetery.
