28 St (6)

Rose Hill, Kips Bay, Manhattan

A numbered street of the 1811 grid, in the area once called Rose Hill.

According to one genealogical source, John Watts (1715–1789) acquired a farm here in 1747 that stretched from what became 21st to 30th Street, and named it Rose Hill after his father’s house near Edinburgh. The name was used for the area chiefly in the 18th and 19th centuries and is not much heard today.
