Named after 28th Street, the original Tin Pan Alley.
Tin Pan Alley, the music publishers and songwriters who dominated American popular music in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, first meant West 28th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues; the block from Broadway to Sixth Avenue was officially co-named Tin Pan Alley in 2022. The most popular of several accounts credits Monroe H. Rosenfeld, who likened the din of cheap pianos to tin pans banged in an alley.
