Named after West 50th Street, one of Manhattan’s numbered crosstown streets.
50th Street crosses the full width of the island, from 12th Avenue in the west to Beekman Place in the east, and carries traffic eastbound. It belongs to the numbered grid of the Commissioners’ Plan of 1811, which at first ended at 155th Street.
