Named after 82nd Street and Jackson Heights, which recalls entrepreneur John C. Jackson.
In 1909 Edward A. MacDougall’s Queensboro Corporation bought land in a marsh called Trains Meadow and named it after Jackson Avenue, itself named after John C. Jackson, a respected Queens entrepreneur. ‘Heights’ echoed the prestige of Brooklyn Heights. The station opened in 1917 as 25th Street and has had its present name since 1925.
