Named after 86th Street, laid out on maps of New Utrecht and Gravesend by 1873.
86th Street runs from Shore Road to McDonald Avenue. It was already drawn on an 1873 atlas plate of the town of New Utrecht, though, as Forgotten New York puts it, it was 'just a line on a map then'. A Gravesend map of the same year shows it laid out through marshes. When it was built out to its full length is not known.
