One of the lettered avenues, from A to Z, of south-central Brooklyn.
Avenue U belongs to the grid of lettered avenues, running from A to Z, in the flat south-central part of Brooklyn, built up in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as public transport improved. It runs from Stillwell Avenue in Gravesend to Bergen Avenue in Bergen Beach. The first station here opened around 1902, as the community of Homecrest was being built.
