The station is signed Beach 25th Street–Wavecrest. The Long Island Rail Road opened it in May 1928 as Wavecrest Station. As Brownstoner notes, when the Transit Authority took over the Rockaway line it kept station names like Wavecrest, even though the streets of Queens had been given numbers in the 1920s.
