Signed Beach 36th Street–Edgemere, after the neighbourhood founded here in 1892.
Edgemere was founded in 1892 by Frederick J. Lancaster, who first called it New Venice. Like neighbouring Arverne, it was developed as a beachfront tourist district within easy reach of Brooklyn and Manhattan by railway. The first station here opened on June 21, 1895, on the Long Island Rail Road's Far Rockaway Branch.
