Once Avenue B, given a British-sounding name by developers in 1897.
Beverley Road was once Avenue B. In 1897, at the request of developers, the City of Brooklyn renamed several streets in what is now Prospect Park South; developers such as Dean Alvord wanted posh, British-sounding names. Segments of Avenue B renamed after Brooklyn joined Greater New York got the American spelling Beverly, hence the Beverly Road station on the Nostrand Avenue line.
