Beverly Road was once Avenue B, one of Brooklyn’s lettered avenues.
In 1897, at developers’ request, the City of Brooklyn renamed part of Avenue B Beverley Road. After Brooklyn joined Greater New York, more segments, including this one, took the Americanised spelling Beverly – hence one ‘e’ fewer than at Beverley Road station on the Brighton Line. Forgotten New York sees such British names as likely part of a trend to ‘class up’ streets.
