Named after the Reformed Dutch Church at the heart of old Flatbush.
This was the main road to the Flatbush Reformed Church at the centre of the original Dutch town. Earlier names included Church Lane and East Broadway; as the church gained in importance, the road was named after it, says Forgotten New York. The congregation dates from the 1650s; its present building went up in 1793–98.
