Named after Christopher Street and, since 2024, the nearby Stonewall National Monument.
In June 1969 patrons of the Stonewall Inn on Christopher Street fought back against a police raid, sparking the Stonewall riots, widely seen as the birth of the gay liberation movement. The station, formerly Christopher Street–Sheridan Square, was renamed on 28 June 2024. The street itself is named after Charles Christopher Amos, who acquired the land in 1799.
