Court Street was called George Street until 1835.
Wikipedia’s Brooklyn Heights article says the street was renamed Court Street in 1835 even though there were no courts nearby. Forgotten New York says it is named for the courthouse buildings downtown. Brooklyn’s City Hall, now Borough Hall, next to the station, was completed in 1848; the Kings County Courthouse followed in 1868, making the area a government centre.
