Fort Hamilton Parkway leads to Fort Hamilton, the army post it is named after.
Originally Fort Hamilton Avenue, it was renamed a parkway by the state legislature in 1892, to make property along it more desirable. It runs 4.1 miles to the base’s entrance in Bay Ridge. The fort was referred to as Fort Hamilton as early as 1826, but was only officially named after Alexander Hamilton, the first US Treasury Secretary, in the 20th century.
